Guardian of The Forest

Ancient and full of the wisdom gathered through time , this spirit guardian was inspired by a tree I came across in a forest which had been hit by lightning. Although it no longer had branches it still stood strong and rooted into the earth. This piece was carved from professional earthstone clay. It is decorated with coloured slips, porcelain wash, matt glaze and was sanded down multiple times to achieve a very gentle finish which gives it a natural appearance. From the same forrest ground I collected copper oxides, sand stone and minerals which I added to the top of the piece and some of the details to give a very black almost charred appearance to represent the passage of time.
